For me, it serves as potentialy, a small, pocket camera that, unlike a digital point and shoot, has a very high quality carl zies lens. Plus its a chance for me to finnaly play with film. THe downsides being, its all manual, in every possible respects. However... thats sorta the fun of it.
Hopefully my endenvours with bringing this little camera around with me will create some cool photos...

Okay, the sony alpha a350. Ive used one, or a very similar model, and its a great camera. However, in terms of DSLR's id naturally point you in the direction of a Canon Digital Rebel XTi or a Entry level Nikon DSLR, mainly because these two camera giants have a wonderful selection of lenses to choose between, and the size of the CCD (image sensors) is physically larger. Key to remember that, megapixels don't mean crap when the surface that takes in the light isn't very big. For example, this review here: [link] at the end points out how the 12megapixel Canon Digital Rebel does better at a higher ISO even though its a 12 megapixel; it takes in more light because it has a bigger senser. Considering the price is about the same, if I were you, I would get a digital rebel, in less theres some specific things about the alpha you really want. It is a slick camera. What lenses are you planning to get w/ it? What kits?
thanks for your advice, i also read the review but i think i'm still gonna get the alpha. reasons for that are: i've used sony products for a long time (both my camera and cellphone are sony) and i'm really really pleased with them. also, i really like the super steady shot thing that the alpha has built in. i went to a photography store a couple of days ago and i think the alpha worked best for me. so now it looks like i'm gonna get the sony alpha a350k kit that has the 18-50mm lense w/ it. for a moment i hestitated b/c one of the new canons has the video function, but i'm not quite sure if i'd ever really need it. in addition to that i will look at some sweet minolta lenses that the dad of a friend of mine is selling. i'd get the a350x that comes with a second additional lense, but yeah... money is an issue. a summer full of mindless photoshop tasks for my dad's company is getting me what i need though: a nice dslr w/ a little equipment, an ipod, new headphones and -FINALLY!- a pen for the wacom tablet you gave me.
oh yeah, did you get your macbook? i though you wanted to get one before college. ha, and guess what, i actually found someone who knows and plays ultimate, so i've been throwing disks all summer

Living in a dorm is interesting. Its already a good ways into the semester and yeah. Mel I think wants me to come take pics. I also ran into Ieva at the mall the other day. I had no idea she was back in America again... hah.
I look forward to seeing photos you take with your new camera, and I hope the tablet works out well!
